The Alpha-1-Antitrypsin (AAT) test measures the level of the AAT protein in your blood. AAT helps protect your lungs and liver from damage caused by certain enzymes. Abnormal levels may indicate a genetic condition called Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency, which can increase the risk of lung and liver disease. Common reasons for testing include: Family history of lung or liver disease Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or emphysema Unexplained liver disease Assessment for genetic risk factors affecting lung and liver health Specimen Type: Blood draw Turnaround Time: Typically 2–5 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile blood draw services
