The Blood Lead test using ICP-MS (Inductively Coupled Plasma–Mass Spectrometry) accurately measures the level of lead in your blood. This test helps detect exposure to lead, a toxic heavy metal that can affect the brain, kidneys, and other vital organs. Why it’s done: To evaluate possible lead exposure from the environment (old paint, water, workplace, hobbies, etc.) To monitor lead levels in people with known or ongoing exposure To support diagnosis and treatment when lead poisoning is suspected Specimen Type: Whole blood collected in a metal-free tube Turnaround Time: Typically 3–5 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile blood draw services Important Note: No level of lead in the blood is considered completely safe, especially for children.
