The CEA test measures the level of carcinoembryonic antigen in the blood, a protein that may be elevated in certain cancers. The “Non-Smoker” reference range is used because smoking can naturally increase CEA levels. Why it’s done: To monitor treatment response in patients with certain cancers (e.g., colon, pancreatic, breast) To detect possible cancer recurrence To help evaluate tumors alongside other diagnostic tests Not typically used as a standalone cancer screening test Specimen Type: Blood draw Turnaround Time: Typically 1–3 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile blood draw services
