The Group B Streptococcus (GBS) Screen detects the presence of Group B Streptococcus bacteria, commonly screened in pregnant individuals to prevent neonatal infections. Why it’s done: To screen for GBS colonization during pregnancy To guide antibiotic treatment during labor if positive To prevent transmission of bacteria to newborns To monitor maternal and neonatal health Specimen Type: Vaginal and/or rectal swab Turnaround Time: Typically 1–3 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile collection
