The Haptoglobin test measures the level of haptoglobin, a protein produced by the liver that binds free hemoglobin in the blood. It helps evaluate red blood cell breakdown and certain liver conditions. Why it’s done: To help detect and evaluate hemolytic anemia To assess for excessive breakdown of red blood cells To help evaluate liver function and inflammation To support investigation of unexplained anemia or jaundice Specimen Type: Blood draw Turnaround Time: Typically 1–3 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile blood draw services
