The HLA-B27 test detects the presence of the HLA-B27 protein on white blood cells using flow cytometry. This protein is associated with an increased risk of certain autoimmune and inflammatory conditions. Why it’s done: To help diagnose ankylosing spondylitis and other spondyloarthropathies To evaluate chronic joint pain, stiffness, or inflammation To support assessment of autoimmune or inflammatory disorders To aid in early detection and management of related conditions Specimen Type: Blood draw Turnaround Time: Typically 3–5 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile blood draw services
