The Lyme Western Blot, IgM test is a specialized blood test that detects IgM antibodies produced in response to Borrelia burgdorferi, the bacteria that causes Lyme disease. This test is most useful for identifying early or recent infections. Why it’s done: To help confirm a recent Lyme infection after a positive or borderline Lyme screening test To evaluate early Lyme symptoms such as rash (bullseye rash), fever, fatigue, and muscle or joint aches To differentiate early-stage infection from later-stage disease To guide further testing or treatment decisions Specimen Type: Blood draw Turnaround Time: Typically 3–5 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile blood draw services
