The Neisseria Gonorrhoeae test detects the presence of Neisseria gonorrhoeae, the bacteria that causes gonorrhea, a common sexually transmitted infection (STI). Why it’s done: To diagnose gonorrhea infection To evaluate symptoms such as discharge, pain, or burning during urination To screen sexually active individuals or high-risk populations To guide appropriate antibiotic treatment and prevent complications Specimen Type: Urine, genital swab, or throat/rectal swab (depending on exposure) Turnaround Time: Typically 1–3 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile collection services
