The Throat Culture (A, B) + Sensitivity test detects Group A and Group B Streptococcus bacteria in the throat and determines which antibiotics are effective for treatment. Why it’s done: To diagnose bacterial throat infections caused by Group A or B Streptococcus To guide appropriate antibiotic therapy based on sensitivity results To differentiate bacterial infections from viral causes To monitor treatment response in confirmed infections To prevent complications such as rheumatic fever or systemic infection Specimen Type: Throat swab Turnaround Time: Typically 2–5 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile collection services
