The Throat Culture (Group A & B) test detects the presence of Group A and Group B Streptococcus bacteria in the throat to identify bacterial infections. Why it’s done: To diagnose strep throat caused by Group A or B Streptococcus To differentiate bacterial infections from viral causes To guide appropriate treatment and antibiotic use To monitor treatment response in confirmed infections To prevent complications such as rheumatic fever or systemic infection Specimen Type: Throat swab Turnaround Time: Typically 1–3 business days Collection Available: In-office or mobile collection services
